no audio device

I was upgrading a friends pc to winxp. After the upgrade we went into win media player, inserted a music cd and got a message that said no audio device. How or where can I get the drivers for the audio?

What sound do you have? On board or a PCI card, if its on board it will be on the motherboard CD, if its PCI, find out the brand and download it from the mfg.

Also if it's onboard,look in the BIOS and make sure it's enabled.It might have gotten turned off.

AV 97 That I remember because While I was upgrading there was an error stating that I had to remove AV 97. Winxp said it could not upgrade unless I remove AV 97, so I did remove it
