hey, do you have the same power supply in the case also, you might wanna try another monitor on the computer, i had the same problem. my gram's comp did sorta the same thing, and she's telling me it sounds different and everything, finally my friend came it and hooked up a monitor to it and it worked fine. don't let u'r sences trick u (i kno u didn't comment on it, but i kno when u anyone has problems with their computers they always check to see if it sounds different anywhere. sry for the anecdote, this just brought it to mind, basically, if u took anything from it, let it be don't jump to conclusions, cus they're usually wrong, and try a new monitor, u'd be surprised how simple the answer is sometimes. |

Moof,
I think its been the experience of most folks here that with XP (and W2K, for that matter), that you cannot swap out the old mobo, and replace it with another brand... there are a few threads here on people trying to do just that, and a couple have apparently had some success, but -- personally -- I think it's best to do a clean install from scratch. Try searching terms like "swap motherboard" + "XP"+"hardware hive"... terms like that... I take a quick look when I've got some time and post back if I find anything.
PS: In deference to Bovon... and despite my earliest response... you may want to borrow a vid card as Bovon suggested just to rule out a bad vid card... or put your card in someone else's PC.

yea, it'd make sence that switchin a mobo would cause problems, but if you have to, (and u have the resources to do it) set up your computer with a clean install on a hard drive, then set up your hard drive with all your stuff from your old computer on it, and move all the stuff u want from it to the new hard drive. or, i'm pretty sure there is a way to reformat that's not destructive so you can reformat the system files and stuff on the hard drive, so you can change all your drivers and everything, (so it's like putting on a clean windows, but without losing all your documents and files and programs and stuff. last, if you don't have two hard drives, you can get something to partition them, put what u need on the backup partition, then reinstall windows on the first partition, and you have all your important stuff on the second (you just have to make sure you put everything you need on that second partition, cus there's no gettin it back later. |

i tried using different monitors, i had my dad bring in 2 of his monitors and i tried them both. i could probably get a hold of a clean HD and try to install from there, my dad may already have a spare one for the comp which he was gonna build, i can just confiscate that and use it as my own, hehe. |

sounds like either the video card or possibly the power supply.....either try another video card..or try that video card in another system to see if it works there....
