| Blue Screen Error at Boot
Hi...
I had recently pulled apart an older Dell that I owned, wanted to use the HDD in a new PC I'm building, and I wanted the nice Plextor CD drive in it also. But then a friend of mine needed a PC for his neice, so I decided to put it back together to give them. I put the same HDD back in, and a spare CDrom in that I had lying around. I reinstalled WinXP home to give them a clean copy. It would not recognize my CDrom drive. I got that problem fixed, and now have a new problem. I hope someone can help me.
The system boots up, but I'm getting an error message on a blue screen that
says something about not being able to boot, if it's my first time seeing
the message, to reboot. If I receive the message again, to follow these
steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disc space (I do, same HDD that had WinXP on it previously...if it was enough disc space then, it should be enough now, plus I've tried 2 other HDD in there, and get the same message)... If a driver is
identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the
manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing the video adapters (I booted into safe mode, deleted the video adapters, rebooted, same blue screen message).
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing (neither set). If you need to use
safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8
to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.
Technical information:
Stop: 0x0000007e (0xc0000006, 0x806819f3, 0xf9678704, 0xf9678404)
That is the entire message that is coming up.
I can boot into safe mode, no problem, and yes, my CDrom drive is now
appearing as a drive.
Does anyone have any ideas why windows won't boot normally for me now?
I tried to boot from the xp cd, and did a repair, but still get the same
message.
Thanks!

Problem clusters/technical on a HDD maybe.
You might want to reinstall your XP again by formatting the HDD first. Format is also in the XP CD.

Hi...
Thanks for your response. I've tried that. The drive has been reformatted a few times now. I've done a repair off of the XP cd a few times, I've even tried another known working HDD which I also reformatted and reinstalled XP on because I kept getting the same blue message with that drive too.
This is driving me nuts!
Thanks tho!

Have you tried disconnecting all hardware except the required?
Stick to one memory stick, vid card and HD only.
If that doesnt' work try another memory stick.
If you can get it workign then start adding back until its done.
Also try clearing the CMOS by jumper to make sure all BIOS settings are back to default.

Great! Good idea. It just baffles me that I put in the same HDD that I pulled out, didn't change anything else but a CDrom drive, and it does this. I'll start ruling things out with your suggestions. Thanks! |

I've just recently tried to do the same on an old P3 HP of mine, it too gave me the exact same error. It was supposed to become my file server and such but so far I haven't been able to get the old thing working. I've tried at least 3 different CD drives and also multiple WinXP install discs, 4 or 5 dd's all formatted through my running version of XP on a P4 and from the XP install disc, a new set of ram, unplugging everything except for keyboard, cd-rom and hdd, reset the BIOS to factory defaults, replaced CMOS battery, and all to no avail. I've run out of obvious things to try and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

A P3 HP is not that old. I too using P3 at the moment. No problems so far but the only thing that normally gave me a problem, is the hard disk (HDD).
I don't know what is the actual problem. The HDD is well attached on the chasing and no dirt around. This is my fourth HDD. Sometimes I think that my HDD is too heavy, with lots of files, programs and things that I normally download from the internet. I also think maybe its because of the virus or the unstability. So I tend to defrag my HDD once a month, at least.
If the RAM isn't working, then you can't even enter the computer at all. For XP, you need at least 128 of RAM. Too often formatting is also not good. It can damage the HDD clusters. |

this exact same problem is driving me nuts too.
my computer is a samsung nv5000 (maverick) pIII laptop. it's about three and a half years old now and the HD has been replaced. i've been running XP on it successfully for some time now but one day last week the machine began to freeze in the middle of working in windows. it would freeze at no particular time and sometimes cause a BSOD but each time it would cause serious corruption of the data.
For ages I thought it was a problem with the RAM built into the motherboard as it won't even boot up sometimes. I'm now thinking it's hard drive so I'll have to buy a new one and try that.
Did you get anywhere else with your problem? |
