CD-ROM/DVD ROM Wont Respond - Please Help :(

OK, I've now had a problem with every single componant in my PC within the last week.

I took my Video Card out of my PC and put it in a friends PC to test it, it's damaged. I then came home and put it back in, and now Windows says I do not have a CD-ROM/DVD ROM or a CD-R Drive when they're powered up fine, will open and close and spin the disks etc. My drives show up on the list of boot devices in the bios menus but when I try to boot from CD an error message appears telling me to plug the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM in.

Basically everything on my secondary IDE cable has just stopped responding for no reason what-so-ever, I've changed the cable and it didnt work. I swapped the IDE leads around and the CD drives still didnt respond.

Why wont my PC just work

have you made sure they are detected in the bios? are they securly connected? have you enabled the ide ports to let windows see them?

They dont show up on bios anymore, and my primary and secondary IDE ports are in my device manager and apparantly working fine.

The IDE lead wasnt moved at all until I swapped to try another lead.

lead? are you talking about the cables?

I am talking about are the ports ENABLED in the BIOS. Not the device manager.

Bios will let me choose what to set my secondary IDE channel master and slave to, but when I set it to auto both are set to "not installed".

Could I just put my CD/DVD-Rom drive on the primary IDE channel with my hard drive?
