Exclamation Trouble opening "My Computer" and associated files

    Hey Everyone,

I can not open the My Computer icon on my desktop. When I try i get a message that says, "Explorer: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." Following that message i get a message that says there was a problem with internet explorer and it will be closed. Please save all unsaved information, or something like that. This also happens when i try to open file folders. If anyone could help me it would be VERY appreciated. Thank you!

do you have virus protection running on your computer, if so, what program, if not go to the following link download and install the Home Edition...it's free

    http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1016.html

afterwards, do the "check for updates" feature on the virus protection, then after the reboot do a full system scan....good luck...

because it has to do with explorer and stuff, do you think it would help if i installed Netscape as my default browser? i do not have it on my system yet but i could download it.

have you done a full system scan since this problem started? also, what exactly is the error word-for-word, if you don't mind....

The Exact internet explorer error says " An error has occured in internet explorer. Internet explorer will now close. if you continue to expieriance problems, please restart your computer. Obviously i have restarted my computer numerous times and that has not helped.
I have also done a full system scan.

so, is it internet explorer or My Computer giving you the error, cuz it looks like IE is giving you problems based on that error not Windows Explorer....try going to the link below and reinstalling IE if you want to continue using IE, otherwise install another browser client....
