| Winxp and Canon Printer Problems
Hi - I am so sorry you thought I was trying to cause trouble :-( Just becasue of my id ? Well I do hate winxp - BUT, I couldn't figure out how to "post" a msg :-( I do need help :-) Now I bought a new HP computer less than a month ago, and I have a Canon bjc2100 printer. I have done everything under the sun to get it to work with winxp with NO results - been to HP - CANON and Microsoft - emailed them all - what little advise I got, it didn't work - downloaded new driver, etc. They all seem to want to put off the problem to the other ! Anyway, is there ANYONE who has had this problem with their printer and if so, did you get it fixed and can you help me ? I'd so appreciate it :-) By the way: This old grandma is way too old to be making anyone upset - forgive me, while I learn to use this forum. Thank You :-) |

Just out of curiosity, is your Canon hooked up USB or Parallel?
If you hooked it up USB, did you hook it up and then load the drivers? If so, uninstall it, disconnect the USB cable and then reboot. Reload the software and when it asks you to connect the USB cable, do so and turn on the printer. (I should then look for the printer and when it finds it continue loading the drivers.
If you hooked it up Parallel, try disconnecting the printer cable (computer and printer turned off first), and then turn the printer on while disconnected. Hold in the power button until it starts to beep. It should print a demo page. If it does this fine. turn the printer off and reconnect it, then boot up. Uninstall the printer and re-install.

Hi - Thanks for your answer - I appreciate it :-) But we spent half the day trying all this too - no luck - then just happened my hubby got his puter back today and we hooked the printer up to it - it has win95 in it (which the cd for printer was made for) and it still wouldn't work, kep saying I had cartridge problems - cleaned the cart head off - put in new carts and still nothing :-( This is the puter it worked on before - so we came to the conclusion that the printer had died :-( I just said to heck with it and went and bought me another one that was usb and winxp compatible - hooked it up and BAM ! It set up like a dream and I printed with NO problems - YEAH !!!!!! Am so happy about that :-) So now the printer problem is fixed with my new puter and winxp - Now I have to work to fix one for my hubby's and we'll be set ! - Thanks for the help though - might need it again to see if I can get the old printer to work on his :-) Off now to watch a movie :-) |

Sorry about the Print Head.
I thought the printer was new, otherwise I would have mentioned that it could be the print head.
Canon uses a seperate print head and on the BJC 2000 series, the print head is only good for aprox. 2,500 copies per Canon's website. If you don't use Inkjet paper and print at least 1 page every 1-2 weeks, the print head can also become plugged up and need to be replaced.
If you want to spend the money, a new print head costs around $51. (Yeah, I know, that's more than the cost of the printer! )
That's why I left Canon and bought an HP. They build the print head right on to the cartridge.
Harder
BTW, Epson and Brother use a seperate print head like Canon and some Lexmark/Compaq do as well. |
