    ME chokes on more than 512MB of RAM (to which you're undoubtedly thinking, "DUH!"). Some possible work-arounds may be found here.

    Good luck.

    i dont think that answers my problem.
    But its getting me closer. I know windows ME has a maximum memory level of 2Gb... so i dont know how to alter the parameters.

    I tried using MSCONFIG and used the advenced stetting of maximum merory size of 1024Mb... but that didnt work, because they sytem ran in a test formation and wouldnt accept a valve of memory over 999Mb.... which is sucky.

    I'm sure i'm not the only person whos come across this problem.

    i tireds calling microsoft who told me that they have no answer because ME isnt supported by them... and that i would have to pay 45£ for a technical guy to look at it and work it out...
    daylight robbery.

    So what you're saying is that you did not actually look at the article I posted or follow the suggested work-around.

    Ok, well, thanks for stopping by anyway.

    Read the link friend. You have to set your vcache to 512 megs or less in system.ini. Boot up with 512 megs and put that line in. I have mine set this way:

    [vcache]
    MinFileCache=65535
    MaxFileCache=65535
    ChunkSize=512

    I have 512 megs mems in mine but I only set aside 64 megs for cache.

    Osprey4,
    what i have done is
    alterred my System.ini / [vcache] maxfilecache=524288

    and that seems to work. well i am using it now. but i am find that it locks up ramdomly... and hangs.. but with not reponding... so i then close a few files down BOOM i'm away again.

    i have read your article Again, and it made more sense to me on the third read. Apologise for the earlier comment, but it wasnt ment to offend. However, i need more help fine tuning this. can you help me further?

    Make your vcache smaller like 1/8 or 1/4 of your rams. Try 131072 for max.

    Setting the vcache to 1/4 of your ram will not limit the use of the total 1024mb.

    You don't want your vcache to take all your mems or even half of it because you'd want some mems for your windows and all the applications that you open as well as all the processes that's running. That's why you have the errors and when you closed some applications you got some mems now. You don't need too much vcache as it's only serving as a buffer/storage.
