I was having a problem opening a video file that I got from a friend..at first I was getting a codec error ...I then was told to Download DIVX..I did this , I am not getting anymore errors just a black screen and no sound ! Please help I have run out of ideas..

well you need to get the correct codec, they are different codecs ask your friend what codec he has installed.
There is also a application that tell you what codec you need right now it escapes my memory im not on my system right now, when I get back to home, I'll post the link here.

Also, I dont recommend you getting the DivX player, unless its the payed version.
Why? Because it is bundled with advertisement (or spyware in other words)
GAIM, Gator, or whatever its called comes together with the player.
You have to install it in other for the player to work correctly.
This means that you have to have spyware in your computer in order to have DivX.
This literally sucks, and definitely not worth it. Just get the codecs you need.
