I downloaded the standalone firmware update from their website and ran it.
It went through the "initializing modem" and "updating the firmware" steps. During the "reinitializing modem" step, the update ended with a "firmware update failed!" message.
At that point, OS (W2K) would report a hardware failure when I tried to use the modem or run diagnostics via the Control Panel.
When I rebooted the machine, the OS no longer even saw the modem. It's connected, plugged in, and turned on. The hardware wizard can't find the modem. If I use the "have disk" drill and point to the .inf file for the modem, an entry gets put into the device manager, but the OS still can't talk to the modem (reports a hardware failure).
I left messages w/ USR (voice and email), but haven't heard anything back.
Any way to recover the modem?
