I'm sorry but I'm not sure I follow what you are asking in your post, and I'm not sure what to make of your poll. There is no "DOS" within WinXP... so I don't know what to make of your statement "...i cant read cd's from dos...." Are you trying to copy the entire contents of a CD to a directory on your hard drive? Or, are you installing a program and getting a read error?
Does this happen on all CDs? If only certain ones, which ones? Are the CDs damaged or dirty? What CD-RW are you using? What software are you using to manage CD burning?

Are you using some older software - possibly that runs in real mode?
XP evolved from VMS, not DOS.
Anything that requests direct hardware access will be disallowed, and it needs to go through the proper channels to modify the filesystem.
A clean install would probably have been a better idea.

this happens with some cd's like its displays error on middle of copying the content-but the same cd works fine with windows 98-i am using benq cd-rw |

Since this is a W98-->XP upgrade situation, I suggest uninstalling whatever CD-Burning software program(s) you may have installed as well as the CD drivers, then going into Start... Settings... Control Panel... System... Device Manager and removing your CD drive device. Reboot, let XP re-detect and re-install the CD drive, then re-install any programs. |

| Do a full clean system reinstall
If you did an UPgrade ( i mean an XP install over the 98 install) just do a full clean system reinstall and you might just be ok. My idea .. |
