windows xp pro with all windowsupdates
i have a gefore 4 MX420, and up till a few days ago the situation was like this:
i had an older version of the detonator drivers, working perfectly on my computer. however whenever i would go above that version (all the previous versions for a year had worked as well), when i would go above that version it would cause a BSOD on startup (after the windows xp screen with the loading bar, before login), so every time they upgraded it, i'd try and upgrade, it never worked, and i just rolled back the driver in safe mode and went back to my daily computing.
now, my old hd got corrupted while i was installing my newer one, so i no longer have that driver available. i tried installing archived drivers from nvidias site, but now even the oldest ones give me the same problem.
so my problem is whenever i install the drivers, i get a bsod after the xp startup screen, or it just restarts.
i don't know which version of the drivers worked for me, but i've gone through 5 to 8 attempts with different versions from different times trying to get them to work.
does anyone have any advice? does anyone know of a mode nvidia-specific forum?
