i just got a geforce fx 5200 pci card and hooked it up...it runs fine but im not noticing a huge performace in graphics compared to my integrated. I know some ppl support ati over pny but lets save that till after this one's fixed (then it's fair game, lol). I'm running windows xp in a rig with a 1.2 ghz celeron and 256 mb pc100 ram. (it makes me sad too...) I understand my computer it'self is the bottleneck...but still...i noticed pretty much no performace increase at all. I checked system information and got some wierd results...what im wondering is if this is supposed to be like this.
Name Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7125&SUBSYS_801E1043&REV_03\3&61A AA01&0&08
Adapter Type GeForce FX 5200, Intel Corporation compatible
Adapter Description Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller
Adapter RAM 128.00 MB (134,217,728 bytes)
Installed Drivers nv4_disp.dll
Driver Version 6.13.01.2872
INF File oem2.inf (i81x section)
Color Planes 1
Color Table Entries 4294967296
Resolution 1024 x 768 x 85 hertz
Bits/Pixel 32
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\i81xnt5.sys (6.13.01.2872 , 154.43 KB (158,140 bytes), 8/8/2001 10:13 AM)
the name is my integrated graphics but my adapter is the geforce...but then it says something about the intel corporation. i just had my integrated adapter disabled in device manager so i uninstalled it and restarted...then it started installing it again automatically. Then i got the problem that it couldn't find the drivers, i click cancel and the window pops up again. Im actually noticing a performace drop and my processor (in task manager) seems to be more active than usual. it maxes out on things it never did before and crawls on easy tasks. what am i doing wrong because this is driving me crazy. along with the new video card, i switched the case (disconnected everything) and changed the psu. The monitor is hooked up through the fx 5200 and i only use one monitor as of now (getting a second one soon). Please help me cus this is driving me out of my mind. |

As far as the onboard graphics is concerned, somewhere in your bios you can select the default video-OB, PCI, or AGP. Then perhaps a reinstall will help.

When installing a new video card, it helps to uninstall the old one('s drivers) first. Then shut down, pop in the card, and boot into BIOS. Select the card as primary display/VGA adapter, boot into Windows, and install its drivers as directed.
Looks to me like you have a case of conflicting drivers there. A reinstall may help. |

Disable your on-board card and re-install your new card. |

i already have it disabled in bios. i think.... i have the primary display set to pci. (no agp slot) i don't believe there is anything else to shut off in bios (atleast not mine). I can try that but as soon as i uninstal the integrated video adapter on my board, it starts installing itself again. it goes crazy when it does and it starts installing aim drivers and stuff and i get like more and more unknown devices in device manager until i go back and disable the ingegrated video again. is there a jumper on the board or anything that could shut off the video...because i haven't found anything in bios. If it should be in the bios....i have a wierd bios...i don't have many options and im not sure if i can flash it. i haven't yet and the computers a few years old. I'll check it all again....but i can't figure out why i can't stop the video card from trying to load all it's stuff again. thx for the responses though. |

You have the Intel 810E chipset on your board. It is an enhanced version of the plain old 810. I don't remember off hand what the enhancement is. This video boots at 1mb and then dynamically increases video memory up to 11mb as needed. You may have to install both video drivers and then disable the onboard video in the hardware profile in Windows if nothing else works.
What Windows are you running and what motherboard do you have? |

I remember seeing some complicated (non-intuitive) instructions in a thread about how to get onboard graphics disabled on a Dell system....it was some long winded weird process that no one would think of themselves..I wonder if his could be like that? or if maybe the 810 chipsets are like that

if there's a jumper and the manual doesn't tell you about a jumper (which it prolly wont for a prebuilt) it should be labeled right on the board.
