| Installed New MB & Processor, XP won't boot.
Howdy folks,
I recently replaced my older MB & processor (ASUS something or other and an AMD Thunderbird 1ghz) with a new ABIT KV7 and AMD XP 3200. She cranked up and does all the hardware runup just fine (and quite a bit faster than the older set I might say) but when it started to load XP, the progress bar would go accross 3 complete times and then stop on the 3rd, locking up completely. I got it to boot once in safemode but the mouse didn't work so that wasn't very useful. After that it wouldn't even boot in safe mode. So, I tried fiddling with the BIOS a little and 'cleared the CMOS' the way the manual told me to. Still the same problem of freezing upon loading XP. So like any good computer junkie I just figured, hey I needed a clean install of XP anyhow. So I installed XP and it stopped on one file amd7.something or other and said it couldn't load it. I'm not positive on that filename, but I'm pretty sure it had AMD in it. I continued the install anyway and now, the computer reboots to finish the installation in windows and after I get the pretty screen saying startup is continuing or something, it makes a hard click sound and goes to a solid blue screen with the following message:
STOP: c0000139 {Entry Point Not Found}
The procedure entry point MessageBoxTimeoutW could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.
So I tried an install on my aux drive that never had a system on it, thiniking that perhaps the install over the old XP somehow messed it up. Even with trying to install on the aux drive I get the unable to install amd7.something error and after reboot I get the same procedure error.
Any thoughts here before I take a shotgun after the computer?

well the reason ur old xp didnt work was due to the micro instruction change as u changed the processor
the reason that u r unable 2 install the new xp is probably because the copy of xp installation u have has got a vital file for ur amd corrupted. try installing from some other source i think that might help

basically you cant change boards like that and expect Win XP to just boot up...
what you need to do is run a "repair install"
boot from the xp cd....on the first screen hit 'enter' as if you were going to do a fresh install (dont hit (R) yet)...(cuz you dont want the "recovery console")
now it will see that you have windows already installed so it will ask if you want to "repair" the exisiting windows install so you choose (R) to do the repair.
so choose the SECOND R..not the first.
It usually works

When I tried to install Windows 2000 it would also hang up. After I went into the bios and disabled the USB capabilities then it installed just fine. You might give that a try. After installation I enabled the USB stuff and everything worked. |

Thanks for the tip about the install repair thing, but won't it ask for the admin password? Like a big idiot I'm not sure what it is. And now that I've installed a new system over the old system, it's probably a default PW. Anyone know the default admin pw for XP?

Alright, let's see here,
Just did the install repair and it basically seemed to go through like a regular install, but this time I noticed it didn't install two files. The first was aec.sys, a file I've not seen it have any problems with before, and then amdk6, the file that it's never installed so far. Do I just have a junked up install disk?
