dvd/cd drive problems....

i have a laptop and a computer that has a problem reading dvd's....im using windvd4 to play my dvd's....i tried using wmp and other players too but it didnt work at all either....the one on my laptop is a "TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2412(DVD/CD-ROM drive)"....and the one on my computer is a "DVDRW
IDE1004"....both computers r on windows xp professional sp1....i have used "FORCEASPI 1.8" and i used "ASPICHECK" to update my ASPI or whatever thats suppose to b....i have also used "DRIVE INFO" to check on my dvd drive....i have checked my ide ports....everything is where it belongs....i still cant play dvd's....what is my problem??..how do i fix this??..

Why is that you can't play dvds?

Usually there's some error. A good start would be to check if you can browse the dvd in explorer.
