damn dvd drives. so many problems. i have DMA for my DVD writer. i used alcohol 120% and Nero Express 6 to burn a regular data DVD. my computer either gave me a BSOD or automatically restarted during the burn. 2 DVD's down the drain . i have a regular DVD-rom drive and a DVD writer. i did a DVD to DVD-r burn and it worked without any problems (although it did take 30 min.. a little long?). how do i fix the restarting and BSOD problem!?

What is the wattage of your Power supply?..There have been several failures of Windows during CD or DVD burns. It takes a lot of power to run a burning laser...and if the PSU is marginal to begin with..burning may be just enough to push it over the edge. |

yea. i had a 300 watt PSU and i just replaced it with a 350. its the best i can do at the moment. after switching, Nero's cd/dvd speed test was a lot faster. the only problem is that i still get BSOD whenever i burn a DVD.
one time, it said:
0X00000050 Address 80447473 base at 80400000
DateStamp 4047db83 - ntoskrnl.exe
the next time it said:
0x0000004E PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
then:
0x00000077 KERNAL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR
these BSOD's occured everytime i tried to burn a DVD. i heard something about a recovery thing of some sort that might fix it? please help some more...

try opening up a temperature monitor and watch what your temps are doing, next time you do a burn? |

Ok try this...
Run Memtest86. We know that different applications use different memory addresses at different times. If you should have one memory chip with a dead or dying transistor, it will bring Windows to its knees when that memory address is called on. http://www.memtest86.com/
Run the memtest overnight to test the RAM thoroughly...if you see errors in 5 minutes..don't bother running all night
To see if you still have a power problem...disconnect anything you can in the case, extra LEDs for case lightning. NICs...sound cards, modems...anything you can disable for a test to see if that helps.
If you have been using the same kind of DVD disks...beg or borrow or buy a couple of a different kind.. I have seen where changing a brand of CD-Rs have cleared up nagging problems.
Right now, you nor us have a clue where the problem may be..so, its try this---try that time. |

Sounds like a disk I/O error.
First, check your system and application logs, and see if anything is popping up there which gives a better idea of the cause of these issues.
You may also want to run chkdsk on all of your disks and reinstall hardware drivers for your disks and controllers, as well as the burning applications. |

"stack/page" problems are usually associated with memory problems. That would be my first check by removing one of the sticks and trying again and then swapping and trying a second time (provided you have more than one stick of memory, if not, swap with a known good one). |

i ran MemTest fo about 11 hours and it completed 25 tests. it found no errors. now im going to do what all frustrated idiots do: reformat. i had some odd occurances with my computer with other programs for a while now, so reformatting isn't such a bad idea. ill get back to u guys in a few hours... |
