i have a brand new shuttle xpc box, and the fans can get pretty noisy sometimes...
its a 2600XP, im not sure what kinda fan is on there... and its got a shuttle silentX power supply, which you think would be silent
im not exactly sure which one is making the noise, and why its only doing it once and a while.
IDLE:
BOARD: 40/104.0
CPU: 45/113.0
POWER: 44/111.2
CPU FAN: 1962 rpms
POWER FAN: 8438 rpms
does any of that seem out of place? |

nope, thats defintly the right speed...
i dunno if youve seen the shuttle boxes before, but the whole thing is about 7"x7"x11".
the powersupply is only about 2 inches thick, and the fan is about 1.5 x 1.5 http://sys.us.shuttle.com/Why_Inside6.aspx |

I honestly cant see an Athlon XP running at 45 C if your fan was that low. Make sure the software has the run sensors in the right spaces.
Unless your running a tT tower or something that uses a case fan. If so then that's your problem, the board thinks the cpu is in danger because the fan speed is too low so it's overcompensating. That can be a problem with alot of the heat pipe and tower heatsinks.

Oops once again I shoulda clicked the link first. That's the deal, your software and board think the cpu is gonna burn up at that speed. I don't know the answer but there's the quesstion you need to ask. |
