Hi,
A client brought me their emachine 1.8Ghz wanting me to clean off viruses and spyware, because their "internet slowed down big time." I got it and heard a rarttle inside as I climbed the stiars. Upon opening the case, low and behold, the Northbridge heatsink was laying on the bottom of the case. I do a paperclip ghetto mod to make my own clip, which Ive done many times on my IS7 and a client's IS7. Then I take the case outside and blast it with canned air, as the CPU fan was COVERED in it. I plug the computer in, and push the button. The PSU fan spins, the hard drive and CD rom get power, but the CPU fan doesnt spin. No video shows up on the monitor either. So then I press and hold the power button for five seconds, and upon the last second, the fan starts to spin, so I let go of the button, and the fan spins up completely. Still no video, and now I get a long repeating beep indicating a memory error, but I have reseated the memory about twenty times now, with no luck. There is no agp, its onboard video. I have also tried running everyting on my desk outside of the case, with the same luck. Any ideas?
