| 256 or 512mb ram on Celery 500?
A mate of mine has a computer which is running very slow. I have cleaned it up as much as possible but its only a Celery 500 with 64mb of ram. I am going to increase his ram to at least 256mb but was wondering should I go to 512mb instead? Will I notice the difference with the cpu being only a 500 celery. Or is 256mb all he should need.
Thanks. |

why not just buy a new cpu with the money used for the ram? if ram is his only choice then get 256
im getting that pc 100 and pc 133 are his only options? |

i would say 512 is definatley overkill....also check what the maximum module size is it may only be 128.....personaly all i would do is add another 128 to make the total 192 |

w98 or xp or what?
with w98 256 is plenty
but yeah, a cpu upgrade would help a lot

I had an AMD K6-2 450 MHz with 64MB RAM. I added another 64MB and a 128MB stick, getting it up to 256MB. It got a bit better, but I wasn't satisfied. I bought two 256MB sticks to get it up to 512MB. I saw no increase in performance. |

It is only Win98 so I suppose I will stick with 256.
Will a P3 cpu fit into the same slot as a 500 celery as I have a 733mhz P3 chip. I havent taken the cover off the celery yet and Im not sure what type of socket they have. |
