| Raptor shuts down when I touch it
So I got my new 74GB Raptor, go me. It works fine and all, EXCEPT, if I so dare touch the thing while it's operating the drive itself shuts down. Did it twice, because I touched it twice. My case was open at the time as it's around 100 degrees in my room according to the thermometer, MotherboardMonitor was freaking out because the alarm goes off at 70c CPU temp, etc.
Is this "normal" for a drive to do this kind of stuff? I mean, I won't touch it from now on, but I'm curious. |

Whoa! Arctic! I'm more concerned about you right now!
Get to some cooler air!
Shut down till you can get that room temp down. |

Nahh, I run my 1.83Ghz proc at 2.2Ghz all the time, but at this moment I clocked down to 1.9Ghz (200x 9.5). Running at 46-53, not sure how the temp snuck up past 70c. I had it to 75c one time, that was a kick. The max die temp, BTW, for AthlonXP's, is like 80c. |

Define touch.
Are you poking it? Prodding it? Punching it? Or are you just brushing it lightly with the tip of your finger, as a heavyset child would stroke a Hershey Candy bar?
What if you touch it with a steel coat hanger? Does it do the same thing?
Can't say I've heard of this before... But I'll consult the team in the laboratory and see what they have to say about it. |

Sounds like the cable may be shorting when you touch it. HAve you tried using a different cable?
-edit- Nvm, realized/forgot you are touching the drive itself. Too early for me |

if you set it on a wood table and sit next to it with feet in air and then touch it with your other hand touching the ps casing, does it still happen? |

Have you tried updating your bios? I know that there were problems with some computers where if you touched some components it would start the computer up or something, a bios update fixed this. Don't know if this might be similar to your case though. |
