Compaq presario laptop help

I have a Compaq Presario laptop that is not working properly. I recieve this error when i try to use the recovery CD "Data required to restore machine from D drive is not present." Can anyone hep me?

is the cd scratched or dirty?

what are the instructions for the cd..are you supposed to boot from it or just put it in while already in windows or what?

the cd is fine it was the first time it has ever been out of it's case. the instructions say to put the Cd in then restart the computer

or is it just booting into windows??

if it is just booting into windows then u need to go into the bios..probably by pressing f10 as the computer is booting...and change the boot order to allow it to boot to the cd first
