| My Computer Will Not Boot On XP im stuck on ME Alright im gettin a little worried here cuz i can't boot on my WINDOWS XP that i use. so i need some serious Help.
Earlier today i found out how to use MSCONFIG you know to run programs and turn them on and off during start up on my XP....and i also obtain UNINSTALLER PRO 2004 which was an amazing program that helped me get alot of crap outta my system.
Anyway....when i restarted my computer i always have 2 CHOICES run it on ME or XP cuz i have BOOT MAGIC.....well on ME as you can see it WORKS JUST FINE....but when i try and start it on XP it gives me some choices
Run it
SAFE MODE
SAFE MODE WITH COMMANDS
SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING
which then anyone i pick it just shows me abunch of files and then ask me if i want to not LOAD.....
D346BUS.SYS
and tells me to press ESC or CANCEL not to load it... i let it go and nothing happens my comp just stays there not doing anything...if i CANCEL it. Then it still doesn't do anything the computer LIGHTS that tell if the system is working or not stay busy for about 10 seconds and then it acts if everything is fine.
When i choose
RUN THE COMP
NORMALLY - that doesn't do anything either it will load XP like show it LOADING but wont get to the DESKTOP the SCREEN just goes BLACK and stays like that same thing if i tried to load it with
RUN NORMALLY (LAST KNOW WHEN EVERYTHING WAS WORKING) or something close to that....which still does the same exact thing...
I still can get into my BIOS which nothing really works there.
after i used the UNINSTALLER my comp supposedly was going 15% faster which i thought in my head my XP might not be liking the SPEED so i decreased it but still didn't do it.
I was wondering if anybody can help me work MSCONFIG on XP so i can check BACK some stuff that i UNCHECKED....like i heard running MDOS or something can do it....but i need a SOLUTION fast thanx.

d346bus.sys is the Daemon Tools driver. Although version 346 is very stable, it can cause trouble sometimes.
The file shouldn't be loading in XP SafeMode, though! Can you startup in a commandprompt mode? If you can, then just rename the file(s) by typing this into the commandprompt:
ren C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\d346bus.sys C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\old_d346bus.old_sys
ren C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\d346prt.sys C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\old_d346prt.old_sys
Note: mind the correct driveletter, and the spaces inbetween the old and new paths and the ren command, so in short this is what you should type in:
ren PathWithOldName PathWithNewName
After renaming both files, your computer should be starting normally again. If problems persist, though, check the Daemon Tools website for any info

| No i can not go into any type of SAFE MODE at all.
I can't do any of the DAEMON files cuz i cant get INTO SAFE MODE...all it states is that when i try and enter safe mode it asks me about LOADING the D346 FILE and if i want to cancel that process
Either way if i do or dont.....it still wont go.
I got one response that told me to just leave it running in NORMAL START for about 30 minutes in XP but that didn't do it. And i know there is a way around it with out using the XPCD since i do not have it as it is. |

Go to http://www.winbootdisk.com/ and get the necessary boot disk creation executable for your system (I am presuming you can get to the NET from ME). With the boot disks you can now attempt a repair. Incidentally, on which partition do you have Boot Magic installed?

Okay, let's see whether we can do something about your situation.
I'm a little worried, though. You seem to have disabled some items in MSCONFIG and uninstall others with UNINSTALLER PRO. We have to take a look at what you've disabled later. What else did you disable in MSCONFIG? Did you do anything to the Boot.ini file.
Judging from your first post, I believe your problem hinges on D346BUS.SYS. It's blocking the boot process. Once you deal with it, you should be in the clear. There are three ways you can handle D346BUS.SYS: delete it altogether, disable it or rename it so that it does not hinder the startup process. Let's see whether it is listed in the Startup tap in the System Configuration Utility.
Activate MSCONFIG, look for D346BUS.SYS in the Startup tab. If it is checked, uncheck it. Go through what's in the Win.ini tab. Do you see D346BUS.SYS. If so, uncheck it. Unchecking D346BUS.SYS (or a recogniisable derivative of it) will stop it from mixing up the startup process. After doing this, restart your computer.
That's one option. Another is to use your UNINSTALLER PRO, look for D346BUS.SYS and delete it, or if you prefer to rename it. The DOS command for renaming a file is:
ren D346BUS.SYS D346BUS.OLD
(or D346BUS.BAK, whichever suits you).
Yet another option is this:
Boot up normally (you did say that it could be done). As the logon process begins, press and hold down the SHIFT key. Hold down the SHIFT key until whatever finally appears on the screen. What have you got? The machine has stopped; there is an error message, or is Windows XP running normally.
The following programs in STARTUP tab of MSCONFIG should not be disabled:
Csrss.exe
Explorer.exe
Internet.exe
Lsass.exe
Mstask.exe
Spoolsv,exe
Smss.exe
Services.exe
Svchost.exe
System
System Idle
Taskmgr
Winlogon.exe
Winmgment.exe
While you're at it, take a look at Boot.ini. Make sure these items in the Boot Options section are checked:
Safeboot
Minimal
Minimal (AlternateShell)

My apologies, DJLukdogg.
The programs I said should not be disabled are not found in the Startup tab of MSCONFIG.
They are actually processes found in Task Manager. Since you have not disabled anything here, ignore my suggestion.

alright i got some help from a good source and ive obtained the ALL MIGHTY CD
now when i go and hit REPAIR and then i enter where the file is i put
Dir D346BUS.SYS and it tells me that the VOLUME is located in DRIVE D IN disk2part1
AND that the serial number is 3dbe-ce80 or something close to that
so i got and enter D:
which then my friend told me to just RENAME the file and told me to put
RENAME D346BUS.SYS OLD D346BUS.SYS
and it has the D:\ first... so i was wondering do i but RENAME or REN right after that or it doesn't matter cuz anyway i try and rename the file its always PARAMETER IS INVALID i think i have to be entering it WRONG or something cuz it wont let me RENAME it. DO SPACES COUNT or take out the spaces put underscrolls...i have no clue somebody help |

When you stated this MICHAEL.... i wish it was that easy but i cant just shoot that on...i have to SPECIFY a location with it INDICATES its in D so it going to look like D:^ well that arrow just sidesways.... then do i put that command in.
cuz after the CD BOOTS i go to REPAIR then loads a some stuff or checks it and then asks me what number do i want to go to like 1: I\WINDOWS and i enter 1 then it asks me for a password which i have on my XP which i enter and then move on and i enter D:
now my question is after i but DIR D346.SYS it tells me it is infact in D so then i RENAME the file exactly as you said and then i have to put the
D346PRT.SYS and rename that too just the same way as the BUS.SYS file right? |
