| Help setting up WinXP with hardware RAID on Asus A7V8X-E Deluxe mobo!!! PLEASE!!
Well I just got done installing two Seagate Serial ATA 160gig hdd's in my computer and I have a Asus A7V8X-E Deluxe motherboard installed that supports serial ATA hdd's and with this mobo you can setup up RAID with it. So when I booted up the computer I went into the setup util and set it up for RAID0. It was successful and then I rebooted and proceeded with a WinXP pro install but after it loaded all the files (at the begining of the WinXP setup) it said that no hdd's were found suitable to install winXP on. So then I went searching on google and found this: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...eid=830&page=8
It says that there should be a driver disk for the mobo hardware RAID. So I got out the box and there isnt one in there. I have left everything in the box just like I got it. So What I am trying to find out is how to get WinXP set up with my RAID configuration. Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum!
you'll just need to go the asus website and find the drivers....put them on a floppy
boot to the xp pro cd...right away you will see along the bottom of the screen it will say "press f6 for mass storage drivers" or "third party drivers"....I cant remember which exactly....so press f6 right there....after a while it will prompt you for that floppy disk...then you should be straight....
after the install go into windows and install the windows drivers for the raid card etc..I think they show up listed as some sort of scsi device
is it the fastrak 376 raid? look here ...click on "drivers" along the top....then look at the bottom of the page http://www.asus.com/support/download...8X&Type=Latest
I actually didnt see that exact model name u listed...so I just checked under "a7v8x"
now that is a zip file so obviously you wouldnt put that on a floppy....youd first extract it to a folder on the hard drive ...now whether or not this will have the driver needed to install windows I am not sure...cuz these COULD just be windows drivers for after the install...but maybe when you unzip them you will be able to look and see

Is that the Promise Fastrak 376? If so try this driver. Hit F6 when windows setup asks you to. It will take a moment for it to load some more files, then it will ask for the disk. Welcome to techimo |

yeah, I just wonder if there is a different driver for AFTER the install...sort of a driver for the install and then one for after....dunno.
shouldnt be hard to figure out
another idea might be to find someone else with that board and see if they would email the driver...probably a popular board |

from readme file for that driver
1) Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000/XP Fresh Installation
--------------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions in this section if you are performing a new
installation of Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000/XP, and you wish to
boot from a device attached to the SiI 3112 controller.
1. Power off the system. Connect the hard drives to the SiI 3112
controller and insert the controller into a PCI slot. Power up
the system.
2. Put your Windows NT/2000/XP CD into the CD-ROM/DVD drive, or
the NT/2000/XP boot diskette #1 in the floppy drive if your
system cannot boot from the CD.
3. Press F6 for third party SCSI or driver installation at the beginning
of text mode installation. Press 's' when setup asks if you want to
specify an additional device, and insert the diskette labeled
'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Driver Installation Disk' .
Press 'Enter' and select
'Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller'
4. Press 'Enter' to continue on with text mode setup.
5. Follow the setup instructions to select your choice for
partition and file system.
6. After setup examines your disks, it will copy files to
Windows 2000 installation folders and restart the system.
The setup program will continue and finish the installation
after restart.
7. Wait until Windows 2000 finishes installing devices, regional
settings, networking settings, components, and final set of
tasks, reboot the system if it is required.

This is what you need from the zip file:
to load the drivers for the SATA controller copy to floppy everything in the zip file except what is in the GUI folder, the readme.txt and the pdf manual. |
