| HELP!!! Lost all in network can't connect through explorer
I need help........ My computer is connected to the internet through LAN. When I go onto the internet I have to go into my computer and type the address where I want to go. My internet explorer is not working. It starts then just stops. I have removed it and reinstalled it. Still doesn't work. When I click on Network Neighborhood and then click on entire network! IT SAYS ON TOP: WINDOWS EXPLORER: unable to browse the network.
The network is not accessible.
HELP!!!! I don't know how to fix this problem. |

Alright slow down and relax =)
We're going to need some more details about your system and your network.
What operating system?
What kind of internet service?
Are you using a router or is it directly connected to a modem?
Also your explaninatoin is a little all over the place. Try to coherently explain whats giong on.
You said "internet explorer is not working." could you be a little more specific?
What exactly does it do. Does the program itself close down? Or are you simply unable to connect to any websites. If it just says "resolving host" in the status bar and doesnt every say "connecting to..." then it may be that your computer isnt getting an IP from the network.
Some things I'd definatley check out first though,
Update/run your virus scanner.
Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro's website
Update and run spybot and adaware
More info on spyware here: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t114250.html |

I'll try my best to explain this. I'm not good at this computer stuff. I am connected with a modem using cable (adelphia) I can connect to the internet just not through internet explorer. It will start up and just stop and say error: url not found or it will start and just stop and nothing in the address bar or on the page. My outlook works fine, I can receive and send mail with no problem. It starts up and then just dies. I have windows 98 installed on my computer. I called the the cable company and my settings are correct for my IP address. Now that don't go into the network neighborhood. Like I said when I went in there it says unable to browse the network. So it has to be something with my network settings. It looks like I lost them. I have done a virus scan and everythings fine. I was cleaning up my computer and did something to it. Everything I deleted I have put back. Uhhh I always do something like this. But last time I took it in. Let me know what else you need to know. Thanks. Heather |

Hmmm, does your mail configuration used fixed ip addresses? The reason I ask is because you say outlook works, if fixed ip setup and your dns entries have gone this would explain why IE is not working.
From command line if you can "ping 69.93.248.139" but not "ping www.techimo.com" that would confirm. |

Glad you got it fixed
As nasty as some spyware is getting these days with Browser Hijacks and stuff you should consider yourself lucky =)
While we're on the subject of spyware though, I'd definately recommend reading the rest of that thread I posted about using the immunize function in spybot and stuff. Another good choice is "Spywareblaster." Its another "anti-spyware" program if you will (prevents it from every being installed). |

Much of it already has been made illegal but theres really no means to stop it. Most spammers are out of US Jurisdiction. The UN is supposedly going to be working to help prosecute well known spammers but it hasnt come about yet.
I guess we can only hope =) |
