Question
SataLink - Windows XP (Home) Problem

Specs

Motherboard: Gigabyte 7NNXP
CPU: AMD ATHLON 2800+
Hard Drive : (1) WD RAPTOR 36GB

-----------------------------------------------------
I have windows xp installed using f6 and sata drivers on a floppy during setup and my bios is configured in base mode. Now that I'm up and running I notice a lot of bugs. I get blue screen of death error all the time. I'm not sure exactly what the error message says but it has si3112 in it so I know it has something to do with the sata drivers. I aslo noticed that in device manager that there is no SATA/SCSI/RAID drivers installed just an unknown "mass storage device". I tried changing that to the SATALINK driver and it accepted them fine, but as soon as I rebooted the computer it would hang-up during the boot. I would then have to boot windows to the last known good configuration and then in device manager it would be seen as an unknown "mass storage device" still. If you could please help me that would be great. Thanks

Try updating your bios too. I had the Raptor 36Gb drive too with Xp Pro and an Abit IC7. The bios had an option to boot other devices and options for SATA drives. I make sure they were all checked before my SATA drive worked. I wish could help you some more, but I sold the drive and replaced it with a IDE 80Gb maxtor, for O/C reasons. SATA drives don't like overclocking at all.

What I did was turn it to raid mode in the bios and installed the raid controller in windows. (Not that I have a raid array set up) It work just fine now.

I wouldn't mind getting another raptor drive and setting up a raid 0 but I'm not sure it would be beneficial to me. Just looking for something new to do.
