Hi all,
I have this problem for a long time but I didn't notice it, probably because I got used to it somehow and only after people told me they are having hard times trying to read from my screen I began looking for the problem and for a solution.
The problem is that everything seems to be a bit blurry and it only gets worse on the left side of the screen.
For example, if I type a line of '=' signs, it would look fine on the right side, but it would gradually turn into a bold line in the middle with an almost invisible line above it and one below it.
I've found out that reducing the contrast or the brightness of the screen fix the problem but when I want to do something else (let's say, play Enemy Territory) things are too dark and increasing the game's gamma only makes it look bad.
Do you have any idea what may be the problem? What can I do to fix this problem?
Almost forgot,
I have a flat 17" CRT screen from Proview (model DX-777)
Inno3D Tornado GeForce 4 MX 440 64MB
And I'm running Windows XP Home
If you need more infomration just tell me |

Old monitor ?
Another solution, you got any magnetic objects around that area of the monitor? speakers, tv, clocks sometimes etc, just make suer nothing is around the monitor, if there is it might be permanantly damaged or you just need to degausse it. |

In fact, I do have a pair of speakers near the monitor...
I'll move them in the morning to see if that helps.
Thanks |

How long have they been there? What kind of speakers? If they are cheesy little computer speakers then it's probably nothing to worry about. If they are larger, unshielded speakers then Move them NOW. The damage may already be permanent. |

This is what I have:
-A pair of small computer speakers near the screen (but not very close)
-Another kind of small computer speaker, about 50 centimeters right from the screen.
-An old Hi-Fi speaker, about 70 cm left from the screen.
(Don't ask...)
They are there for about 3-4 months.
Edit: I've moved my speakers further from the screen and degaussed but it's probably permanent now...

Your problem could also be convergence...there are focusing adjustments on TV's, and may be on monitors as well. If there are no controls (it will be inside..not usually a user type control because it takes instruments to align good). On a TV, there are several controls to get the screen in 'balance', so that the top, bottom...both sides and the middle are (more or less) the same.
If your monitor is 5 or more years old, it may be pretty much on its last legs..get a newer one if possible. (I just bought a 17" Sony for $25 bucks + shipping) good used monitors are 'out there' because many businesses and even private computer users are going for the newest technology and buying LCD(?) flat screen jobs. |
