hey guys i just built an office computer for my parents:
AMD Duron 1.6Ghz
Thermaltake Volcano 8 HSF
Epox 8RDA3I
1x 256 PC3200 RAM
1x Exelstor 40Gb HD
Connect3D Radeon 7000
Powmax 350watt PSU
Powmax case
i tryed to boot up and theres no video and no beep. i think its the cpu i am not sure though. anyway, i have tested the RAM, PSU, and Motherboard and so i am almost positive its a bad cpu. what do you guys think? anyway i can troubleshoot this problem? i dont have any other cpus to test it with because my computer is at my dads who lives in another state! |

Reset the bios with jumper or remove cmos battery for about 15 minutes. Reseat the psu connector, memory and disconnect the hard drive. Reseat cpu and try it again. Do an inspection of the cpu's core while you have it out. Look for cracks/chips.

To trouble shoot the issue w/o another cpu might be difficult however you need to start by puuling the board out of the case and placing it on a none conductive surface, the board might be grounding in the case. I preffer phonebooks. Connect only the ps, cpu/hs/fan one known good stick of ram and a know good vid card. I know you said you cleared the cmos several times however you might need to unplugg the ps and pull the battery for several mins.
Make sure all your boards jumpers are set correctly and everything is seated properly. Also make sure you have the hs/fan connected to the fan header on the board.. Do all your case fans hs/fan vid card fans ect power up?? check the ps switch to make sure it set right. |

I would do like richieemxX said and check and make sure the board is not touching the case...
Use the package that the board came in...I did this for my friend and his computer came right up...Good luck |

lol at first my comp didnt even start at ALL. i ended up putting the anti static mat the mobo came in (thanks Lambo, but im already ahead of you) and then it started. i then tested all the equipment seperatly (i even popped in the mobo in my comp i have now and it started up flawlessly. i just sent an RMA request to Newegg so i will have the new cpu soon.
EDIT: yes all the fans spin and i hear the hard drive spinning |
