Question
New DVD+CDRW drive won't recognize any disc

Here's the problem. I installed a new DVD+CDRW drive in my PC. All the info I can see says that the installation was a success. Why won't the thing work? I am dumbfounded to say the least! Can anyone help? Do I just have a lemon? This thing won't even read its own software and I am unable to burn anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you check in the device manager for any exclamation marks or question marks?

There is always the possibility it is a dud. I've had it happen to me more than once. Call the manufacturer's support line and describe the problem. If they decide it is bad you can get a replacement...or return it to your place of purchase.

That's probably the best route.

If it shows up in device manager without any ! then the drive is most likely OK. If you are trying to use nero and it doesn't see the drive chances are you haven't updated nero yet. Nero has to be updated to at least 5.5.10.54 or greater some drives require ver 5.5.10.56 or greater. Just check out update from nero http://www.nero.com/en/631933454369230.html

that is if you are trying to use nero

BTW most nero disk that come with the drive still have to be updated to work.

What are the bios boot screens? It does show up in "my computer". Now when I boot up the machine I am getting three small screens that are obviously DOS screens (black background with what appears to be programming language written on it). The three screens have the headings as followsvrmCDB pending IO, Dvrm CDB, and Diagnostic Traces. I am assuming that this has something to do with this problem, but since I'm a social worker and not a tech professional, I am loathe to do anything with these screens.

Also there is no ! in my device manager. Where to go from here? Thanks
