Monitor's Display Messed up

Recently while Using my Computer my 21 Inch CRT Monitor which ive hade for almost 5 Years now the display has started to mess up. It would appear normal as it usually did but all of a sudden it resolution would suddenly stetch out in both directions and the middle of the screen would bend inwards Sort of looking Like this

While in a video game it would also get very bright...

Also changeing the resolution on the monitor would not affect the way the screen was bent

And any attemp to ajust the monitors width in the "stretch" option would not affect it to make it less wider or taller. "Pincushion" and "Trapazoid" would also have no affect.

All other options such as brightness and screen position did still function.

Im guesing my monitors dead

Although I dont know if it Could be anyother thing that could be making this do that (Video card, motherboard). I dont want to go out and get a new one and have the same problem. What do you think?

Since that would be a problem solved under "Pincushion," which doesn't work, I would say your monitor is dead. 5 years is a pretty decent life for a monitor, especially one used frequently.

the crt is probably showing its age.

one last thing you can try is putting back all the settings to the default and readjust the settings again. also try lowering the refresh rate and see of that helps.

My monitor did that about 4 months ago, I just reset it to default settings as presterjohn said and then readjusted it and now everything works fine.

One thing you may want to try before tossing the monitor (if previous suggestions are of no avail) is to take the back cover off and use a can of compressed air to blow all the dust off the components. I've seen monitors do some pretty weird things when they get dusty.

Just be careful not to touch anything. There are a few capacitors in there that can kill you if they're still charged. To be safer, if you turn it off and wait a day or so, they should all be drained.
