    Desk top is side ways

I'm working on this pc that whenever I turn it on, the desktop is side ways. How to I get the desk top back to looking normal? I have to tilt my head to the side in order to click on any icon. Please help. (Wins XP)

does it have the software on it that "pivots" the desktop for those special lcd monitors that can pivot and swivel around?

how exactly did this come about....?
Only thing I can think of is an option with the graphics cards. For example, I know nvidia geforce drivers have the "nRotate" option or something like that which allows rotations of the desktop in 90 degree incriments. Might want to just goto desktop settings --> advanced, and then look for something in there.

This is a HP Pavilion, What would happen if I did formatt it before trying to fix the desk top? would it be possible that the desk top would come back straight after it is formatted?

Check in the video card properties. There is probably a setting for tilt, and dual monitors, you name it. (right click desktop, properties)

Or else, just put it on it's side, fix it and send it on...

is it only messed up after loading windows? then its the vid. card/drivers.
or is it as soon as you turn it on (POST, loading logo)? then its the monitor.

It is mess up after loading. It goes through the loading process, then it stop at the windows where it said welcome. It does not pass that stage from there. Whenever it loads I have to press CTRL, ALT, DEL to get it to the task manager to get to the desk top

maybe try a 'repair install"....that might fix it without formatting.

    boot to xp cd

    on first screen hit enter
2nd screen hit f8 for the license agreement
3rd screen hit (R) to repair it

that will reinstall windows without formatting....might fix it

    ----

or you might just totally uninstall the vid card and reinstall it

orrrr...you could look at the processes running and see if anything is running that could be some sort of video rotating software (like "pivot" software or something)

do ctrl-alt-del and look at the processes running
