Help....Machine shuts down after powering up

i just finishing building a brand new machine...the board is a msi 848p neo ms-6788,kingston 512 pc3200 ddr400 ram,400watt powersupply,120gig maxtor harddisk and a geforce 5200 fx 128mb agp card....However,when i start it up its telling me pxe:e61 media test failure,check cable..I fixed that problem in the bios by changing it to boot from drive now i face a new problem.The machine shuts down after about 1 or 2 mins after i boot it up. The board has a protective mechanism to shut itself down when it starts to over heat so i'm wondering if that could be the problem????

Could very well be the problem, what did you use on the heatsink before attaching it to the processor? Check to make sure it is making good contact with the processor. Also make sure the fan on the heatsink is connected and spinning.

ummm..............well the heatsink has no fan actually.Using a heatsink from another machine that held a 2.0gig intel processor

hmmmm.............well i bought a intel 2.4 processor with a fan so its supposed to come tomorrow..hope thats the problem....thanks a lot man
