nero doesn't see drive.

a buddy of mine's having a problem. he has a cd burner that stopped working. The os has a driver installed and reports working properly. But nero or wmp doesn't see it as a recording device. I tried uninstall/reinstall of nero, uninstall/reinstall of the driver. I haven't tried getting a updated version of the driver yet, mainly cus i cant easily find the exact model and the drive has worked in this comp before. we're using xp but a restore is outta the question. any suggestions?

so nero WAS seeing it and now isnt?

is the drive showing up in my computer??

if not..check and see if the IDE cable came off (cd drive end and also check the end going to the motherboard) or if the power cord came off

also look in device manager and see if there are any yellow question marks or anything

you dont need a driver at all for any cdrom..windows has the drivers etc

Does the drive have power to it? Check to see if it will open.

os xp pro, the drive has power, it shows in device manager as working properly.

upon futher inspection, i found out that the drive is not recognizing any type of cd i put in. I'll check the connections when i can and report back.

one thing is to look in nero and see if the recorder chosen is set on "image recorder"...it shouldnt be set on image recorder....see if it is and see if there is a choice that shows your cdrom
