Welcome to the forum!
sounds like more trouble that its worth..because if one thing is burned out..chances are other things are also.....
best bet may be to just buy a new or used motherboard for it"Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"

thanks john...i didnt want to spend too much on it, thats why i wanted to rule out the possibility of fixing it by replacing the chip...plus im not too bad with a soldering iron, and i love playing around with stuff like this...
...but can you give me some good sites where i can find a nice motherboard for this compaq...i dont want to upgrade it too much...i just want to set up a wireless network and surf the net from anywhere in the house....thanks again!!

Since it is a laptop, you are going to have a hard time replacing the motherboard, you may be able to find parts on eBay.

Pq5 sounds like 'power transistor 5'
Q=transistor on schematics"Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"
