    Fatal exceptions

Can somebody help me please. I am running W95 on an NEC Versa 550 486, ancient I know, but appropiate to my wants. Anyway, I ported over Windows 4.00.1111, but I don't think I shut down correctly, so what happens now when I go to boot up, is the following. It takes me to safe mode, then informs me I have Fatal exception OE @ 0117:00007E1F. If I try and run Win from DOS options #6, it then then says F/E @ OD 0137:BFFBB374. I would greatly apreciate any help with this, thankyou.

    Welcome to TechInMyOpinion!!!

I second KenKun. If that's not the case look at these scenario's:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q245583
Usually corrupted drivers are giving this messages. A scandisk or defragmentation might solve problems too after a crash.

Good luck and let us hear the progress.

Try putting in a windows boot disk. Then at the A: prompt type in.
scandisk.exe It will run it in dos. Defrag the same way.
    defrag.exe
Then let use know what happens.

    Welcome to the forums.

    Fat Ex' follow up

Again...thankyou for your advice, but the saga gets curiouser and curiouser. I now have an error reading as follows "Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device 3, service B, reg/config error. I had reconfigured the the config.sys after an number of trial and errors on my part, and 'ran a make' on my laptop using MSD function which reads as follows..any N/A notation means not running it on my comp.
    Computer; Phoenix/Phoenix 486 DX...Memory 640K, 15360K EXT, 15292K XMS...Video VGA UKNOWN...Network MS Client...OS Version MS-DOS 7.10 [here is main conflict...have it showing as MS-Dos 6.something on another file]...Mouse PS/2 style mouse...Other Adaptor N/A...Disk Drives A:C:H:...LPT Ports 1...Com Ports 1...Windows 4.00 (Not active)...IRQ Status N/A...TSR Programs N/A...Device Drivers N/A.
Now I don't know if any of this info helps...but am slowly working through this, this end...sincerely Gweggles

Re-install 95 on top of itself, you should not lose any files doing a "dirty" install.

You may need a W98 boot disc to get the mscdex.exe for the CD drivers..

Just too make some things clear:
You had win95, you installed windows NT and then the problems started?

    BTW:
You can download a bootdisk here:
    http://www.bootdisk.info/

Insert a empty diskette and just run the file.

Personally I would do a format and than reinstall windows. Saves you allot of headache IMO.

With reinstalling you did clean the hardisk first?
IMO your fresh install conflicts with the old setup.

You tried the bootdiskette? You should be able to acces everything this way. At that moment DOS is loaded from the bootdiskette (probably MSdos 7.x or 8.x)

    Try this command first: FDISK/mbr
    That will fix the startup.

Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device 3, service B.
This message is displayed with win95, when system.ini is missing or simply blank.

I am afraid a fresh install is really needed here.
That means try to backup important files. We need to get in DOS again
    Use the command Format C:\
And reinstall windows 95 (no DOS install needed)

BTW some programs that show msdos 6 hence you have 7 is pure because the programs were made before 7 came out. Its unable to detect that one and returns the latest full MS-DOS 6.22

CTRL ALT S would be the key to enter your BIOS isn't it?
Get it to boot from diskette (floppy).
That is really the only way.
If you can't get in this way, or use "del" or "esc" to get in BIOS settings, Ireally think your RAM is bad.

Hard to say but I really think problems would be solved if you followed the instructions that I gave unless you can't get in BIOS.
If you need help on the BIOS settings be free to ask. I do need the brand of the BIOS: Phoenix, Award, Ami?

Basicaly you need to set the BIOS to start of A: or B: drive prior to C: ("BOOT from:" setting)

You can';t access your operating system because of the conflict between 95 and NT, so you will have to doa complete, fresh reinstall as suggested by Dutch. Trying to reinstall NT or even worse 95 over the top of the current mess won't help, most likely. So use a boot floppy disk that contains format and fdisk and do what Dutch said. But BACK UP ANY DATA YOU STILL NEED FIRST if you can.

You may need to boot with a floopy that loads a driver for the CD-ROM if the machine doesn't support booting form a CD. Let us know if you need help with this.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Now, I wonder why our member fatalexception hasn't been attracted to this thread ?

OKies...straight up...there is no NT in this.....good news is...i'm back in DOS via the A drive. the BIOS is Phoenix, and ran a setup.exe from C:..to wit...I wont install for lack of SETUP:CAB....even d/loaded zip of same..only to get corrupt d/load!!!
also reverting back to prior DOS install hasnt helped....LOL!!

Sound s a bit confusing, gweggles, at least I'm confused anyway!

Do you have the NT setup files on the C: drive? Is that where you are running setup.exe from? Do you have a CD with NT setup files on it? If so, you should be able to get to a CD from DOS, even if the BIOS won't let you. All you need is some startup files on the floppy to get access to the CD. Or you could even load then onto C: drive and run form there.

So how are you trying to load NT?
