what ram to use...

ok i have a gateway g6-300 pc from '97 making it...7 years old? anyways it has 64mb of ram and i want to upgrade desperately. i dont exactly know what to look for as a good replacement though. i believe its 66MHz. can anyone give me somewhere to look if a pc100/133 stick wont work...i dont care if theres bottlenecking so long as i can get more ram in it

the newer ram that you might buy in the stores today probably wont work....they started making the pc133 where it WONT work with pc100 and slower....

but if you can find some older pc133 or pc100 you should be ok

also u can go online at gateways site and put in the serial# of that comp and it'll tell u the specs etc

u can also check at www.anandtech.com sales forum...any pc100 would probably work..but maybe dont try to go over 128mb sticks

well i did some googleing and i need some pc66. the machine is running 98 and i think the board maxes out with 3sticks 128mb = 384mb. ive seen 256 sticks but i dont know if the mobo will handle them. i typed the mobo part number into gateways site and they only give me partial specs of stuff and thats what i found on the memory and handling 128 sticks...but it didnt say it couldnt do 256s...not too important, it would just be nice to know.

these are my search results: http://search.support.gateway.com/ip...0All%20Support

the reciept says it is an astoria motherboard part number mbdpci034aaww

preference makes me want to run win2k but i might have to leave win98 on it because of unsupported drivers.

anyways i think i should be ok with 3 64 sticks since they are cheaper. thanks guys
