Wireless Connection Help

Ok here goes. Im going to try to do my best explaining this. My friend who lives in my dorm room has a desktop computer with wireless internet card and a regular ethernet card. He connects to the internet through the ethernet card.

i know there is some way that i can get on my laptop w/wireless card and share the connection (giving me wireless internet). i just cant seem to get it to work. any help would be great.

i was told my friends computer could be set up as an access point, we're connected now, i just have to figure out why im not getting packets...

i have ethernet jacks in the room thats it, its like a t3 line or something if that helps

we both have wireless cards, he has his wirless connection set up and shared and is also connected to the ethernet in the wall. so when i view available networks, he's on there. i can connect to that network. so our computers are talking. im sending out packets, but not receiving any. Both of our firewalls are down.
