I have an ECS 848P-A Mobo with a P4 2.4ghz 533mhz FSB processor. Everytime I boot up bios displays "Warning! CPU has been changed, Please re-enter cpu settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quitting." For some reason I guess the mobo isn't saving the cpu settings. This is driving me crazy!!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

1)Are the jumpers set correctly so they are not in the 'Clear CMOS' position?
2)Weak CMOS battery.
3) Or worse corrupt CMOS. You may need to flash the BIOS to correct this.
How old is this system, and did it run well before? |

1)Yes, Jumpers are set correctly, I just built this system.
2)I did flash the BIOS but the problem still remains.
3)If it is the battery, how do I check it and where do I get another battery if needed? |

The batteries are cheap. Just carefully take it out and buy a new one. It is likely to be a CR 2032...

Is it an 'AMI' BIOS or a 'Phoenix/Award'?? If it's an AMI BIOS you may need to 'clear the CMOS' to reset it. Or your flash may not have taken correctly. Flashing is a procedure that must be followed with strict orthodoxy to the procedure itself; there is very little room for error. Are you sure you downloaded the right .bin file for your mobo and BIOS?? ECS is known for not being the most complete place to look for tech help |

dfrosted,
What was the proceedure you used to flash the board and what file did you flash it with. ECS can get rather involved. One thing is that they put out different versions of the same board and you must match that version to the BIOS file you intend to flash it with. The board version is stamped on the board so you need to open up the case. Note there are 2 versions 1.0 and 2.0 so that might explain things. ECS's flashes are version specific so care must be taken to establish the right board version. V2.0 has no bios updates, V1.0 has a bios update that brings the board to 1.0f This flash didn't cover any processor specific issues accept to add additional support for the New Prescott processor. It seems to handle the 533MHZ frontside bus but just because it is a 478 socket doesn't mean a Celeron of the same socket would work. The docs said it was for Pentium 4 and didn't mention Celeron at all. So all in all, Check processor to see if it is compatable. Possibility of flashing board with wrong bios file. It could be a battery but I never seen one go out on the first start up so to me it seems unlikely but check anyway to be sure. |
