Does anyone know if laptop DVD drives use the same style connection as Laptop Hard Drives... What I want to do, (Without spending $600 on an external drive) is buy a laptop slimline DVD / CDRW Combo, and install in the dashboard of my car. Now, because the PC is in the trunk, the cable will not reach, so I need to convert it to Firewire. See what I'm getting at? The external drives are super expencive, and bulky, and the slimline notebook drives are $71 on Newegg.com
I know I can get a Laptop HD to IDE cable converter, then an IDE to Firewire converter, (Speed is not an issue, dont forget, its in my car) but I'm unsure what type of connection the notebook DVD drives have.
