| No beep, no post, quick question
Hey All... hopefully just a short question here. I've read numerous threads on what to do when your computer powers up, but doesn't beep/post and no video. From what I've read, the mobo or cpu is dead. BUT I do have one quick question, to make sure before I go buying a new mobo/cpu... is it possible that the Mobo being grounded would cause the same systems? Power up but no post? Just to note, the cpu fan is blowing, so I know the Mobo is getting power... which makes me think it's not grounded, but I thought I'd ask. |

One more thing to try...
Unplug the plug from the wall, and then reset your CMOS jumper (wait a full minute befor putting it back to normal) and see if you get anything then.
As far as grounding, I think all the ground it needs comes from the atx plug on the mb. AFAIK, any other grounding can cause malfunction.
Is there another video card around you can try?
Is there another power supply you can try?
If no joy with these three tests, I'd say it's toast.

I did all the normal stuff... different RAM, different vid card, etc. I power it up and the drives all get juice (LEDs flash on DVDRW, I hear the HDD spin I think, etc), but the screen just stays blank and I get no beep codes at all. I've tried a lot of things, all of which were great suggestions, but I'm pretty sure the cpu or mobo is a goner. I'm just curious if the mobo being shorted to the case could cause the symptoms above or not... I remember reading something about checking the mounting to see if that was causing a problem. But if the fans that plug into the Mobo are on... does that tell me that the Mobo power is fine and there's no issue with the mounting? |

Oh, and I did try clearing the CMOS and such... nothing there. The grounding/shorted thing is my last thought before playing the death dirge for the mobo/cpu. |

I had a similar problem once and I found a loose screw was under the motherboard between it and the case that was shorting out the mobo causing the symptoms you describe. At least it did in my case, but it sounds familiar to me. |

So should I try something like yanking the Mobo? Maybe just put it on a static sheet and hook up the basics, then try firing it up? Or is that a waste of time since I know the Mobo is getting power (since the CPU fan is spinning)? |

No-do just that. Remove it and try it out of case on somthing non conductive. Just mem cpu (with HSf of course)-video. Nothing else. See what happens.
