| new dell laptop... how do I turn off the dell alert system??
Hey all... I just got a new dell laptop and installed service pack 2 on it. Now there's a couple of things bothering me.
1) In my system tray, there is a program called NotifyAlert.exe which is a dell program that checks for updates. I don't want or need it to be on. I have tried going through msconfig and looking in the registry looking for why it always starts up, but I can't find it. can anyone help me here?
2) Does the windows security shield have to stay on in my system try as well? sp2 put it there and I don't need it there either...
can anyone help me out?

I'm not sure about the Notify Alerts, I just exit out every time I boot up (right click and select exit in system tray). For the Security Shield, what anti-virus program are you using? I currently run the Windows Firewall, but have McAfee virus scan running and I don't have the Shield in my system tray. If you have the built in SP2 anti-virus running, that could cause the shield to stay in your tray. I've also heard running the SP2 ant-virus, and another anti-virus program (i.e. Norton or McAfee) can cause problems. Hope this helps. |

hmm... well... it would be nice to figure out how to get rid of the notify alert problem. I'm using norton antivirus, but it is a version specifically licensed for my university.
does that help?

one of 3 places...(maybe others)
msconfig...see if it is listed there under 'startup' and uncheck it
services.msc same..see if it is there and set it to "disable"
or click on the icon thing itself and see if it has "options" or "preferences" or 'settings" etc to turn it off
id go with msconfig first
also you can look it up on google and you should find something

For SP2, open up the shield, double click it or go to control panel > security center. On the left hand side under "resources" the last option is "Change the way security center alerts me" and uncheck what you don't what it alerting you about. |

I'm tweaking up an Inspiron 600m, same problem, msconfig does not display the Dell Support Alerts task bar startup...
BUT:
CCleaner does! One of my fav utilities (ccleaner.com), open it, and click on tools, then click the Startup tab. You'll see the link, I think it's called "Support.exe" or something.
You can't uninstall Dell Support for some reason, autocancels. http://www.justfcit.ch |
