| Laptop Boot/XP Setup Problem
I have a hp omnibook 6000 laptop with 512 megs of ram and a 700mhz pIII processor. My dilema started after I installed various programs....xp pro would randomly freeze up either at login or right afterwards. So after uninstalling these programs, the problem still remained so i decided to format and do a clean install of xp pro.
After one failed install (due to the freezing) the computer became very hard to turn on. it would start up but there would be no display. Everything would sound the same (fans, etc). then i connected it to an external monitor and it worked, but once i got to the setup point where i start entering information, it frooze again.
So I tried restarting and black blank screen again. Also does anyone know of a way to manually get a cd out of a laptop drive (without breaking it). Thanks again and any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Not sure, but I think you have one (or both) of these 2 problems:
You have a hardware faliure on your laptop;
You have low CPU speed.
I wouldn't recomend using Windows XP pro on anything under 1 GHz and 256 MB of RAM.
I have a freind who has simular crashes on his old PC (P3 800 MHz, 256 RAM). |

I've gotten XP to run on alot worse PCs before. Have you tried installing a different OS other than XP? That would rule out if it is a XP problem.

i am running XP SP 1a on a P2 366 without any problems at all like freezing or crashes. it could be a problem of the software you installed causing XP to go crazy. or worst, it's just coincidental that you have actually a harware problem.
good luck. |

Like I said I got XP to run on a 333 Celly with 128 of pc 100 RAM. Hell I got server 2003 to run on it too. It is even an eMechine!! I really don't think that it is an XP problem. Try installing another OS to make sure, but you will most likely get the same thing.
P.S. I did NOT say it ran fast, it did run without crashing though. |

Yeah there's no way XP Pro would run well at all with only 128Mb of RAM let alone a slow as all hell CPU
