I am thinkin of buying one of these series of black coolmax power supplies. They look much better with my black windowed case. They seem to be very high rated and quiet at that. I might not end up with this 400W, the 450W is just a couple bucks more, but sold out. Exptected to be back in monday .
Can anyone suggest if this is good enough? I know I am more biased towards it because it *looks* better but hey, JP you did mod your power supply so it *looked* right in your clear acrylic case didnt ya? Heh. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...159-024&depa=0
The later is a deal I think could be great. Its supposedly very very quiet, lets you control the noise sort of, and its surely a better option for black windowed cases which are very popular. Good rails maybe? Good Company? Anyone know? Sure got great newegg reviews...

While NewEgg is a good company, you need to remember that their main purpose is to sell products... do not trust ANY review you find on a sellers site...
Google up reviews of CoolMax and go by that...
----------
From what I've seen... the older, and the base models of CoolMax weren't so great, but some of the newer, higher end models show promise... If you do get it I'm sure all of us would be greatly appreciative of your own review...
------------
Truth is.. that PSU in the Acrylic case I modded... is actually a supposedly garbage PowMax PSU that I got a "too good to pass up" deal on...
I fully expected to strip out the Led fans and fan guards and filch the blue molex connectors and sleeving.
When I tested it however, I was surprised at how stable it was under load and how well it performed in general...
Now granted, only time will tell... but so far it has performed quite well...

Heh well that rig you have in that clear case is AWESOME. That must have took some serious modding heh. That anon poster who said his 6 year old could mod that case is a fool :P
I am going to go with one of them probably, depending on some reviews I find on google. I will review it for this thread of yours JP. A couple of people are also interested in a real benchmark of that 3100+ too, wish making my system was not taking forever heh. |

Ok JP, I read a review and it got 9/10.
But the review says it has a weaker then normal 12v line. How bad is that? It still got a 9/10 for its other features heh.
I would rather just buy a real good dependable black PS and sleeve the wires with UV tubing and throw in a cold cathode to make it look nice for cheap money. Cold cathode goes for like 10 bucks or so on newegg... just need that sleeving.

Ok, looking at the E-Power Cheetah now. Quite a bit more expensive. Looks like you pay more for the modding they do to it to begin with. Has lots of UV reactive sleeving already on it. Got good reviews on newegg and on google. Supposedly runs hot though. Quite a bit of $$$ to pay for just UV sleeving. Where on newegg can I just buy that UV sleeving seperate?
EDIT: ok newegg has vantec uv sleeving but no blue!!! I need blue heh.

Vantec to my knowledge are seemingly decent PSU's...
The specs look good and if you can really judge by weight, they're solid feeling...
Vantec as a whole is considered a good brand name... and I'd be highly surprised if they havent just rebadged a decent PSU from someone else...
Just for the sake of curiousity.... why so high powered?
what is it you think you will need that high a wattage for?
I have a hard time justifying spending THAT kind of Money when something just as good and still overpowered can be had for half as much... http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/psspecialxcwt420atx.html
