Floppy Drive(S) Fail (40)

Need help fixing a floppy drive error.

A friend gave me a generic pc and everytime I boot the pc I get an error message that reads "floppy drive(s) fail (40)" press F1 to continue or DEL to enter SETUP. It fails on the initialization. When I press F1 the pc goes through its normal boot sequence and I am able to use the Floppy drive as if nothing is wrong. I'm tired of pressing the F1 key to continue. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Double check the cable connections for the drive, it may be loose.

Or you can change the BIOS so that it does not halt on all errors if you are sure that your floppy drive is working ok...

Check the connections, yes. Also check to see if you have the floppy settings correct in your BIOS.
