anyway i put the new mobo in the case and hook it up and when i plug the power cord in, the orange light comes up and cant start the system up
but i have a 200W max psu from dell lol yea i know( i ordered a case with 450W anyway ) but i was just wondering if it was the motherboard malfuntioning or it was power shortage
can any1 gimme some word?

I would very strongly suggest you NOT try using that PSU to test again...
you stand a good chance of blowing something.
what brand is the new PSU going to be...

does it really matter? whats the difference between power supplys...
October 19th, 2004, 09:38 PM #7
Um................... big big difference, cheep PSU's like to blow up and take mobo's and cpu's with them.BSOD.........
The reason why I'll be drunk tonight.
Are you a winner?

Just so your aware ... the PSU that will come with that case will be garbage... seriously consider a different case or upgrade the PSU... save yourself some hassle...
read up on Power Supplies here...

well heres my system specs
p4 2.4G probably will overclock it
asrocki65G if it works....
anyway i just want to know what kind of psu fits me
October 19th, 2004, 09:52 PM #11
wait till you get it and install Everesthome right away and check the rail voltages...
that will tell you better how "good" it is...
You could get lucky and get a decent PSU... I cant garuantee you wont, but considering chiefmax is a knockoff case to begin with and your paying $40 shipped, dont expect anything but a 10 ounce paperweight..

The specs on that psu are actually very good, I know it's not an Antec or anything but it should be decent, most case psu's are, if its not a really high end system or you're not overclocking most will be fine but this one looks like it can handle a bit more than average, with those specs it will be just fine.
Just for the record lol, I was at headbands house and we got on my account and he forgot to log off afterwards so... I will correct his grammer now lmao...

seriously... read from my link...
there are multiple posts here dedicated to PSU problems , all the way from random problems within windows to outright component loss due to surges, and arcing...
Do not trust a new, power hungry system to a shoddy power supply...
Especially if you plan to overclock...
My cheapest suggestion is...

well...do i need that much psu? 420W?
i went the that website u provided and i only need like 250-300

October 20th, 2004, 12:19 PM #15

I would go a little better but those are ok I guess.... they would probably work just fine for your system but I have a 350w psu on my ssytem and it has problems with putting out enough power has 12a on the 12+ rails and u want about 18a
my system specs:
2x256mb PC3200 Dual
5x80mm fans (3 are unplugged because it was killing my computer cuz the psu couldn't put out enough power)
so just letting u know that u need a good psu or you could have some power problemsDr. Cox -Newbie, Stay. Oohhh what a good boy you are, Newbie..... DEAR GOD JUDY HOW MUCH PRODUCT DO YOU USE?

While the PSU's you linked are all very good... The minimum you should be using, is a 350...
Did you add in any fans, lights, upgrade room?
300 is kind of pushing it... if budget is the main consern here is my cheapest suggestion...
October 20th, 2004, 06:11 PM #18
well ill probably overclock my cpu....so i need psu that can overclock well....
also i have 1LED fan, 1 80mmfan,1 hsf prob these are the only fan
1 40G hard drive, 2.4G northwood cpu, 2x256mb pc3200 ram, G4 ti4600, on ASRock i65G mobo
October 20th, 2004, 06:13 PM #19
gah!! i shouldve waited for the case to order>< i basically wasted money on the case ><
October 20th, 2004, 06:16 PM #20
you....i think i should just get the one u posted earlier
the thermaltake one...it has free shipping so its only like 5dollars off
but will that psu be good for overclocking? i know its good enuf wattage
