| problem booting with ASUS p4c800 and p4
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a ASUS p4c800 question
I recently installed a new P4 3.2 Ghz 800mhz cpu on my p4c800 board. Before
I had a 2.5 ghz 533fsb on it. when I first booted the board detected a new cpu. When I entered the post setup, everything seemed to be ok. The bios detected hyperthreading, correct speed, etc.) When I exited the setup to load windows. the system hung. Now everytime I boot i get the message "overclocking failed" I can still bypass this by selecting f2 but i cant restart or it will hang.
I know this board can handle the 800 fsb and the cpu is recognized in windows
but I cant figure out why i would be getting this message if anyone knows or has ideas please reply this is a PITA,
thanks |

Yes, I have . unfortunately, after I flash the bios and go to reset, the system hangs. Basically, resetting the bios seemingly has no effect |

I would try to set up the bios manually with the correct specs
Also did you happen to upgrade or use differnt ram,Asus boards tend to say "overclocking failed" with misconfigured(timmings) or uncompatible RAM installed or even a stick of RAM in in the wrong DIMM socket.
if else fails try a fresh install of windows.. |

Just remeber When you install windows you can still keep your current installation of windows on your Hard drive.
So you will just be Dual booting(two different windows installs) so if the new windows you put on the hard drive works then the fresh insall was the answer, if not at least you didn't earse your current windows installation |

I was going to re-install windows, but now Im skeptical. Windows dosent seem to be the problem. the system hangs before windows is loaded . If anyone has come across this problem before, or knows about problems with the p4c800 deluxe and HT procs let me know |

Ive been looking around online and have seen several articles on the cpu/heatsink
mounting bracket can cause problems if it is too tight . It seems to be an infamous problem for this type of board. Ill check it out and give feedback later. I hope this works |
