OnBoard Sounnd not detected

I just got a new rig and everything seems to be working fine except that windows can't see the onboard sound.

-Windows XP Pro SP1
-Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.2GHz
-Biostar M7NCD w/ Realtek ALC650 integrated audio
-400w PSU
-512MB RAM
-8x DVD+/-R/RW

The bios is latest. I do believe it is enabled in BIOS. Although I found onboard peripheral config a little confusing.. Could someone point me to where I should enable/disable. I left these settings to default. HELP!

Did you install the drivers for the onboard sound?

you might need to go into the bios and under integrated perhiperals make sure that onboard audio is enabled

Every board I've seen with onboard audio has it enabled as default but ya never know these days. You could also check the Windows device manager to see if it is showing up in there. I know on my ECS mobo under Win2k the onboard audio showed up as disabled in the device manager when I disabled the audio through the mobo's bios.

yah I have never seen one with onboard disabled but I would hate to go through a ton of troubleshooting to find that the onboard got disabled somehow, have you gone into device manager and checked if there were any problems or alerts in there? Did you plug the speakers into the green port? Have you gone into audio properties and made sure nothing was muted (wave and master specifically)?

drivers were installed first thing
it's enabled in bios (the two options are Auto and Disabled....it's on Auto)
there's no alert in Windows

have not a clue as to what I ought to do.....
