changing color - Tech Support Forums

I'm working on a computer for someone and the color is set at 16, the only other option is 2. How do I get it to 256? Also, I can't change the screen area, the slide bar won't slide. I thought it may be the video driver but that seems to be okay.

It's a slightly older computer.
win98
80 meg of ram(if that tells you how old)
6 gig hd

i dont think you can, since there is no option to.

i would say this since you say the computer is old, and that there is so few system resources, meaning that the video card is no going to be the best out there.

the video card doesnt support 256 colors i would think with the drivers you have now.

If it's an older computer I bet the video card is a piece of junk and does not have the capability to display more than 16 colours that's why the 'colour slider' won't slide to enable you to increase colour depth because it has no colour depth....

.. and the giveaway clue is the 6 gig hard disk...

Still.. it would make a good door stop I guess..

I agree with the door stop. I hate it when I agree to try to work on someones computer because it's alway very, very, very old. Cheap Bast@rd$. Buy another one!!

I thought it was the video card. I'll see if I can update or find another one.

Before you go out and buy one try a second one just to see it it makes a difference rather then waste money.. I too have been cought in that trap of fixing someone's antique computer and they often expect to be brought into the 21st century for $10.. lmao.

There should be a fee just for the time it takes to explain to them why it can't and should not be done.
