I now get the following message on startup after I deleted "AOL 'Instant Messenger" that would come up on startup and was annoying me:"Problem With Shortcut" The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'Text Bridge Instant access OCR Ink' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again" When I recovered AOL Instant Mesenger I figured this would quit but it doesn't. How can I get rid of this? |

run "msconfig" and look at the "startup" tab
see if 'text bridge blah blah' is listed in the list...if so uncheck it

Yes John that seems to be the answer. I no longer get that annoying AOL Instant Messenger on startup and that text bridge blah blah is gone. What did I (you) just do how can I utilize this msconfig thing in the future??? Can you still help me with my other PC that only starts in safe mode, maybe msconfig can help clear that up too? Thanks for your help |

I switched printers from LJ4 to 4L, first few print jobs were fine then one fine day Isent a print job and screen went blank momentarily, I got some sort of error message and my PC told me (get this) I had no printer installed, so I reinstalled the drivers again but the same thing kept occurring. I tried changing several parallel cables thinking they were bad but to no avail. I pulled the old DELL PC hooked it to another monitor and now it said I don't have the drivers for the monitor I'm using. It will only start in safe mode it will not print and now the PC is unable to use the monitor in some sort of limited pixels or something. All this is moot because the only thing I really need from this PC is to get the printer manuals that I downloaded that are sitting on my desktop and I no longer can print. Woyuldn't I lose them if I wiped out my OS Windows 98 and stared anew? |

If you formatted the drive you would lose them.
why not boot up in safe mode and save them to a floppy?
although the it depends on their sizes.
It all sounds like some driver problem though. |

Brought the PC to a shop this afternoon. Let you know what he says, stay tuned! So far he says CD-rom is no good, getting error messages so it will be replaced for $30. I'm wondering now if this is a virus cause everything seems to be going down???

CD-rom and disc drive replaced from old computer parts I had formatted with new OS this time Windows 98SE which has more drivers for printers and monitors, no clue as to what the previous problem was just know it was fixed and I now have my printers manuals on CD |
