Where is the com port on a laptop?
A friend of mine has com port 1 listed in his device manager but does not have a physical com port on the back of the laptop. Is the com port connected to the pcmcia slot???
He needs to use some communication software so can he use a serial port to usb adaptor and if so how does he tell the software that it needs to use the usb port instead?
Thanks.

If the laptop has a built-in modem, then the software driver creates a "virtual" COM port.
The USB-to-Serial adapter should have a driver that will do what is needed. This signature intentionally left blank.
