| Not a Vaild Windows Image
Hello ,
I 'm having a terrible time trying to get my laptop to work, I pressed standby on my laptop , and ever since that, there is this box that pops up
with the label of
lsass.exe - Bad image
and the message says,
"The application or DLLC:\WINDOWS\system32\LSARV.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
I've tried booting the computer in all sorts of ways, but to no avail! The laptop is a Dell CPX, it's a windows 98 that has been upgraded to windows XP. I bought this as a used laptop, so I didn't get the original discs that comes with it. I tried popping in Dell desktop computer recovery discs, but that hasn't worked.I have a lot of data saved on this laptop, and I don't know how to fix this problem!
PLEASE HELP!!!! |

You sure it's not 'LSASRV.dll'?
If it is, you might want to scan your computer for viruses. |

Hello,
Yes, I'm sure that it's not 'LSASRV.dll', it can't be a virus because I don't have the internet on my laptop.
Thank you,
George |

Some info for you, might want to run an anti-virus in safe-mode to be sure.. Quote:
Process name: Local security authentication server
Product: Windows
Company: Microsoft
File: lsass.exe
"lsass.exe" is the Local Security Authentication Server. It verifies the validity of user logons to your PC/Server. It generates the process responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service. This process is performed by using authentication packages such as the default Msgina.dll. If authentication is successful, Lsass generates the user's access token, which is used to launch the initial shell. Other processes that the user initiates inherit this token. More info Note: The lsass.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, lsass.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager.
Virus with same name:
W32.Nimos.Worm - Symantec Corporation
W32.Sasser.E.Worm (Lsasss.exe) - McAfee
W32.HLLW.Lovgate.C@mm - Symantec Corporation | You need to make sure that the lsass is running in c:\windows\System32 and not somewhere else also.

Hello,
how do I run a antivirus program, since I can't login on to my laptop,
I've tried putting in cds, but they haven't work.
Can you please explain how to run an anti-virus program , and which anti-virus to use. Normally if you want to run a program you just simply put in the cd or diskette, and just click on and that's it, but in this case the laptop won't log me in.
Every time I start the laptop, the a black screen comes on and tells me to choose between windows xp or windows 95( there's a permanent sticker on the right -hand corner of the laptop that says windows 98)
I press windows xp, and then a page with a black background comes on with the windows logo in the middle and a blue downloading line comes up after 5 seconds I'm about to get the user login page and then a black screen pops with a message saying
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\LSARV.dll is not a vaild Windows image. Please check this aginst your installation.
About the viruses, like I said I don't have the internet on the alptop, but I have transfered songs that I dowloaded from my desktop, so there's a possibility it could be fromt that.
But how do I go about running an anti-virus program in my case.
Thank you,
George. |
