switched work laptop from domain login to workgroup now i cant login!!
Ok so i did something stupid and i need some help. I was tinkering around on a work laptop(not a good idea) and in the system settings for computer name, i changed it from domain to workgroup, rebooted for settings to take effect, then when login came up it asked for username and password, the username and password i used before when it was set to domain wont work, it does give me the checkbox to log in using dial up, so i try that using my home dsl, it dials up and connects, but still says it cant log me in due to username/password issues. I tried leaving it blank but that didnt work either. I'm running windows 2000 Pro SP4. If you need anymore info to help let me know. I also tried safe mode and that just brought me back to the login screen and i couldn't login. Will anything on the login window change when i go to work and plug into the network?? Right now it just asks for username and password with the dial up checkbox. Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can pass my way!!
Ben

Now you must login with a local username & password, not a Domain account (even when back at work). If you do not know this info, contact your related IT dept. There are ways to gain local login without knowing the local account info, but you still must rejoin the Domain to get the computer "back to normal". To join a Domain, you normally need Domain Admin level access to the domain itself. Hence, contact your IT support or Help desk.

Thanks, for the answer. I work for a small company, we tried the two admin passwords that they normally use and those didnt work, however i am fairly new at the company so i am currently using an older laptop that they dont remember what the password was if it wasnt one of the two we tried. Now, it seems as iff the only option is to reformat and reinstall. However, if we are going to do that I was thinking i might try a program called Austrumi to try to crack the password. Is there any real harm in trying this as a last resort???
